Exhibitionist, eclectic, innovative: Marcel Wanders has conquered the attention of international media, brands and Museums.
Born in 1963 in Holland, he grew up in Boxtel and graduated cum laude from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (ArtEZ Institute of the Arts) in Arnhem in 1988.
In 1995 he opened his own studio in Amsterdam and a year after he came to worldwide attention for his iconic Knotted Chair for Droog Design. In 2000 he founded the successful design label Moooi, now known internationally.
He conceived the LUTE SUITES idea and designed interiors for Rotterdam's Blitz and New York's Thor restaurants. He has been in the jury for a number of international prizes, lectured at SFMoMA, Limn, the Design Academy, Nike, IDFA, FutureDesignDays and taught design in a variety of universities in Holland and abroad.
Many of his projects have been selected for the most important collections in international design museums, such as New York's MoMa, London's V&A, Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum , Rotterdam's Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Utrecht's Central Museum. Articles about him have appeared on the main design magazines.
