Mario Botta, world-famous architect and designer, was born in 1943 in Mendrisio, Switzerland. His architectural creations encompass many different types of projects: from museums and administrative buildings to banks and churches. In the world of design furniture, Mario Botta's famous pieces include the Shogun table lamp, created for Artemide: a luminous piece with an architectural feel, which reveals the designer's passion for geometry and colour contrasts.
Mario Botta started practising the art of building design as a child: at the age of only sixteen, he designed his first single-family home, which was later built in the Canton of Ticino. He graduated from the IUAV in Venice and in 1970 he opened his own studio in Lugano, which he later moved to his home town. His architecture was heavily influenced by great masters such as Le Corbusier, Louis I. Kahn and Carlo Scarpa, whom he met in Venice during his studies. His talent has led him to win international prizes and awards.
