Gubi proudly presents the 9602 Pierre Frey Edition floor lamp, a special edition that brings together two 20th century design icons: the Finnish master of light Paavo Tynell and the renowned Parisian textile maison Pierre Frey. In collaboration with Pierre Frey, Gubi has honoured Tynell's revolutionary design, putting Pierre Frey's extraordinary mastery of textiles at the service of light. The result is a fantastic and fresh version of one of Tynell's most famous pieces, now available with a lampshade with a vivid and evocative reinvented motif. The 9602 floor lamp, originally created for the Aulanko Hotel in Helsinki in 1935 and reproduced by Gubi in 2018, is a work of art in itself. Consisting of a wicker pole and a polished brass base, all held together by a cone-shaped element above them both, this lamp is an example of sleek elegance. The special edition features a pleated cotton shade with an artistic pattern specially selected by Pierre Frey. The design, nicknamed 'Le Jardin du Palais', depicts a lush garden filled with lush fauna and flora. The vivid colours and dense texture of the design create a play of contrasts with the linear and geometric simplicity of the lamp, recalling Tynell's love of nature and his desire to include it in his creations. The expertly hand-pleated fabric, following the same technique used by Tynell in the first editions of his lampshades, requires specific skills and attention to detail. The folding of the fabric, combined with the kaleidoscope of colours of the lampshade, creates plays of light and a refined poetic atmosphere in any room. The special edition of the 9602 floor lamp joins the existing collection, testifying to Tynell's craftsmanship and affinity for creating combinations of natural materials.
