Switched off, it recalls a surrealist painting hung on the wall: the Bit 2 wall lamp belongs to the Bit family, the alphabet of organic shapes that Ferruccio Laviani imagined for Foscarini. Its silhouette, dating from 1993, is a sign in its own right and, together with the others, forms a luminous script.
The painted-glass form rests on a metal frame, finished with epoxy powders like the canopy that anchors it to the wall. At the centre, the decorative metal glass-lock holds the diffuser and underlines its outline with a clearly visible detail. The design has fluid, organic lines, and the frame stays in the background. In a bedroom, a corridor or the hallway, the Bit 2 wall lamp brings a sinuous profile to the wall, changing the perception of a neutral surface.
When switched on, the light is reflected onto the wall and at once diffused by the glass, with a soft halo that widens the contours of the shape. Plug and on/off switch sit on the transparent cable, so turning it on stays immediate. The Bit 2 lives alone as a small luminous picture or in a group, where the different shapes of the collection create free compositions that are never alike.
