Available in 8/10 weeksThe wooden bench Canton by the brand Poltronova, designed by Franco Raggi, originates from a graphic exercise that transforms a continuous line into a three-dimensional volume, conceived for entrances and passage spaces, where function blends with a strong visual component throughout environments.
The project develops a minimal sign in which geometry and structure coincide: two squares connected by a horizontal line generate the essential seat of Canton, conceived not for traditional comfort but for an abstract reading of domestic space, where ergonomics gives way to a rigorous visual construction. The integrated side compartments host books, magazines and everyday objects, turning the element into a hybrid system between seat and container. In 2023 the Poltronova Study Center, together with Franco Raggi, reissues Canton recovering the original 1980s project and introducing new chromatic combinations that expand the reading of the sign further today.
Two design versions, Canton and Canton Color, interpret the structure through different materials and finishes. The first in beech wood with melamine edge and water-based coating, the second with natural dyed ash veneer. The colour combinations define a graphic sign suited to entrances, corridors and contemporary contract spaces within built environments today.

Balancing experimentation with conceptual rigor, Franco Raggi has navigated the history of Italian design and architecture with an informed, multidisciplinary gaze. Architect, author, and curator, he is known for works such as the Flûte lamps for FontanaArte and Ex-Tr for Firmamento Milano. His style moves fluidly between light, graphics, and space, adopting a narrative and radical approach that is in constant dialogue with the changing ideas and languages of design.
Poltronova since 1957 loves to amaze with its unusual design, establishing itself as one of the most revolutionary and important realities in the furnishing sector of the Sixties to the present day. Founded by Sergio Cammilli in Agliana, Tuscany, it immediately stands out for its originality and its extraordinary team of designers: from the great masters like Ettore Sottsass who was its art director, Gae Aulenti, Paolo Portoghesi, Giovanni Michelucci, Angelo Mangiarotti, the Archizoom, the Superstudio and De Pas – D'Urbino – Lomazzi to the protagonists of the “Nuovo Design” which were then called radicals. Among the most famous products, the Joe armchair and the Superonda Poltronova modular sofa are considered works of art in the world of design, real icons to place in the domestic spaces and beyond. Since 2005, the Centro Studi Poltronova was born, with the aim of building an archive of important documents relating to the historic Poltronova brand and at the same time continuing to edit its most famous products. Mohd is Poltronova's official partner.
