Poltronova Canton Bench Designed by Franco Raggi

The wooden bench Canton by the brand Poltronova, designed by Franco Raggi, originates from a graphic exercise that transforms a continuous line into a three-dimensional volume, conceived for entrances and passage spaces, where function blends with a strong visual component throughout environments.

The project develops a minimal sign in which geometry and structure coincide: two squares connected by a horizontal line generate the essential seat of Canton, conceived not for traditional comfort but for an abstract reading of domestic space, where ergonomics gives way to a rigorous visual construction. The integrated side compartments host books, magazines and everyday objects, turning the element into a hybrid system between seat and container. In 2023 the Poltronova Study Center, together with Franco Raggi, reissues Canton recovering the original 1980s project and introducing new chromatic combinations that expand the reading of the sign further today.

Two design versions, Canton and Canton Color, interpret the structure through different materials and finishes. The first in beech wood with melamine edge and water-based coating, the second with natural dyed ash veneer. The colour combinations define a graphic sign suited to entrances, corridors and contemporary contract spaces within built environments today.
