Shiro Kuramata

Considered to be one of the greatest Japanese designers ever, Shiro Kuramata has been a globally renowned artist. Author of a powerful, avant-garde design, his works have been exhibited in the most important museums all over the world, from the MoMA in New York, to the Metropolitain and the Vitra Design Museum. Among his masterpieces, the poetic Miss Blanche glass chair that embodies a floating vintage style.

Kuramata studied at the Tokyo polytechnic high school, refining and improving his knowledge. In 1965, he founded the Kuramata Design Office, officially entering the world of architecture and interior design. With Memphis, he came in contact for the first time with Italian design, and in 1987 he started working for Cappellini, introducing his functional Progetti Compiuti chest of drawers.
